Project Chaira has a total capacity of 864 megawatts and a pumping capacity of 788 megawatts. The Chaira project consists of four reversible Francis pump-turbines, each producing at 216 megawatts in the generating mode, and 197 megawatts in pumping mode. At that time Chaira held the record for being the largest pumped-storage hydropower plant in southeast Europe.
